By now it’s a well known fact that I love using MyBodyModel croquis to sketch clothes that I plan to make.

I use my Apple pen and an app called Sketch Club to sketch on my iPad. It’s easy to simulate fabrics.  For Simplicity pattern 6467, I colored the sketch with pink and then added a few other colors using different “brushes” available on the app.

This is another version of the Simplicity 6467 pattern. This viscose poplin fabric is so comfortable to wear.

Another way I use the Sketch Club app is to audition fabrics in my sketches. By taking a photo of the fabric (or using a photo from the vendor’s website) you can sketch over the fabric and get an idea of how it will look made up in your garment.

Sometimes it’s fun to sketch three different styles and then ask your Instagram followers to weigh in on which pattern they think you should make. In this sketch I was leaning toward the Mandy Boatneck, but sketched the Tabor and the Mimosa and asked my Instagram friends for their opinion. They were split between the Mandy and the Mimosa. I went with my first choice and made the Mandy Boatneck Tee.

I even like sketching clothes I made long before I discovered MyBodyModel. I made this brown knit dress, New Look pattern 6524 (D0270), in January. I sketched it last week just to have a record of the dresses I have made this year.

I also sketched one of my makes from Me Made May – my Charlie Caftan in rayon chambray.

  1. It’s amazing to see how representational the croquis is. No more guessing what it will look like on you and then getting frustrated after you’ve put in the effort to sew it. I just downloaded mine, so we will see how it goes!
